We will, we will, rock you. The lowdown on what gravel to use for your project:
For your driveway: The standard size gravel to use for a driveway is ¾” minus gravel, meaning the gravel is no larger than 3/4 of an inch and minus refers to anything smaller down to the dusty fines which help to pack the gravel in place. We have ¾” minus crushed rock which works great but the most popular gravel we sell for driveways, potholes and unimproved roads is ¾”minus crushed asphalt. Before ordering any gravel delivery we highly recommend visiting our yard and taking a look at the products. This way you’re satisfied with what you’re ordering and it is easier to see just how well the crushed asphalt looks and packs down. If you have a muddy driveway that needs to be firmed up then we have an 1 ½” clear crushed concrete without any fines that packs well in muddy areas.
For underneath concrete slabs or base compaction: Our ¾”minus crushed concrete is the most popular material we sell for this purpose. This material has more dusty fines for compaction so it actually packs better for a base than ¾” minus crushed rock. We are picky about the materials we take in to recycle to ensure quality recycled products therefore our concrete is porcelain free and a very clean product. Crushed concrete often gets a bad reputation since some places (not all) mix with other materials such as porcelain, wood, and/or the material is not run through a crusher with strong enough magnets to extract metals. We’re on a mission to change people’s minds about the quality of recycled materials to save our customers money and to benefit the environment.
For underneath brick pavers: There are a couple different ways to go when laying a base for brick pavers. The Cadillac way to go would be to purchase ¼” minus crushed rock for the base (some people use only this material) and/or put a thin layer of mason sand underneath the pavers and sweep the sand in between the cracks of the pavers. Concrete sand can work too which is a medium grade sand that packs well for the layer underneath. The best money saving trick that will still allow for great compacting results is to use ¾” minus crushed concrete for the base, a thin layer of fill sand and top it off by only purchasing a 5 gallon bucket or two of mason sand to sweep in between the cracks of the pavers. We do have a batch truck perfect for this particular project and many others. Our batch truck can haul up to six cubic yards each of two different materials so keep that in mind when ordering to save you on delivery fees!
